Christopher Tejada is extremely honored to be serving as your 2016-2017 Central Region Vice President. Christopher is a senior at Union City High School and has been an active DECA member since his freshman year. Ever since he joined DECA his freshman year, he knew he wanted to be a leader. He quickly took on a role as a chapter officer his freshman year. He then served as the Director of Communications his sophomore and junior year. He was also ecstatic to serve as your 2015-2016 State Treasurer and is more than thrilled that you chose him to serve you this year. While he served as a chapter officer he contributed to the completion of all five chapter campaigns two years in a row and his chapter was the only one that accomplished all five chapter campaigns in the 2014-2015 year and one of two chapters that completed it in the 2015- 2016 year in the state of New Jersey. He has earned three leadership awards and he will use his leadership knowledge to serve you successfully. Christopher’s experience in DECA has impacted his life and he wishes to share his passion and love for DECA with his fellow members.

Christopher has attended three regional conferences, three state conferences and has attended three consecutive ICDC’s in Atlanta, Georgia, Orlando, Florida, and Nashville, Tennessee. He also attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT)  before he became your State Treasurer. As a freshman, he competed in the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism event and then, as a sophomore and junior, competed in the Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling event. He will continue competing in this event and wishes to excel in his competitive events but his primary focus is serving as your Central Region Vice President.

Outside of DECA, Christopher is active participating in extra-curricular activities inside and outside of school. Christopher is a writer for his school’s Newspaper. He sings for his school’s choir and plays for his school’s Junior Varsity Volleyball team. He is also a member of the 2017 class committee and his school’s Student Council. He was also chosen to be his school’s EMCEE, which is the host and speaker that entertains the crowd during any school pep rallies or events. He also works as a Light Director in EagleVision Media, which is a multi-media company that is based in his school. Outside of  school, Christopher loves to volunteer at his local theatre. He has assisted in rebuilding the facility and training the young students how to become great leaders. Although Christopher has a handful of non-DECA related events going on, he will always put DECA first.

Christopher also enjoys spending time with his dog, Lilly, his friends, and especially his family (specifically his baby cousin Xavier). During his free time, Christopher likes to take leisurely walks with his friends and going out for occasional runs. He loves to recognize outstanding members on social media as well. His favorite snacks include Doritos, Capri-Sun juice boxes, popcorn, and pizza. Christopher is extremely social and is never afraid to spark up a conversation. He wants you to know that you can call him Chris, if you please. He also wants you to know that he believes we are all one and wants you to share any questions, comments, concerns, and ideas that you may have, as he is very open to them. He wants this DECA year to be the best and wants all the members to have a say and have the time of their lives! He hopes that this DECA year will impact your life the way DECA impacted his.

Be sure to catch Christopher at the next conference and ask him as many questions as you desire. He looks forward to being your Central Region Vice President and has so much in store for you all. Christopher cannot wait to start working and helping you all Own Your Future.

Maggie McCurdy is thrilled and honored to be serving as your 2016-2017 Southern Region Vice President. Maggie is a senior at Cherry Hill High School West and has been in DECA since her freshman year. DECA has been the best part of her high school career as it has given her the opportunity to meet amazing people, learn essential skills to her future career, and given her the confidence to succeed. Her freshman year she competed in Principles of Finance, which she loved so much it inspired her to compete in the Business Finance Series for her Sophomore and Junior year. She has attended ICDC in Atlanta, Orlando, and Nashville. Nashville was her favorite because of the city and because she got to spend it with her fellow state officers!

Outside of DECA, Maggie is involved in her studies and extracurriculars. Maggie likes to challenge herself by taking AP classes and is a part of the National Honor Society. She is also involved in Student Government where she serves on her class’s executive board. Additionally, she is a cadet in her school’s Air Force Junior ROTC program, where she leads as their Support Squadron Commander. Plus, she is a varsity member of the girls soccer team. Being a part of her school is extremely important to Maggie because she loves to work with people and gain the experience needed to be a great leader.

When Maggie has free time (which is rare), she enjoys watching movies, reading, spending time with friends, or hanging out with her brother and sister. When she’s feeling outdoorsy she’ll go for a run or plan to go camping and hiking (which someday she’ll actually do).

Overall, Maggie is ecstatic to be a part of the State Action Team. She looks forward to meeting and learning from all DECA members and is always willing to listen to any comments, hear any questions, or just have a conversation! She knows this year is going to be truly epic and cannot wait to get started working!
